METTC returns to in-person training

Summer of 2021 marked the return of live training at METTC, suspended because of the COVID lockdown. It was a very fulfilling and exhilarating experience for staff and adult learners alike to be interacting face-to-face. Personal safety and health precautions were a major concern. Everyone attending had been vaccinated and observed CDC guidelines. There were no cases of infection.

There were three cohorts, some of whom began last year on Zoom. They met for the first time this summer away from the online world and developed into a vibrant community. The schedules were full and challenging, but as the feedback shows, well worth the effort.

"...We really loved being able to make the projects our students will be making."

"...We have a new knowledge of Montessori philosophy to apply in our schools and in our lives"

"...Everyone on the faculty is very approachable and authentically interested in our learning."

"...The balance of presentations and work time was excellent "

"...I appreciated the emphasis on the development of the mathematical mind through repeated use of the materials, to explore the interrelatedness of the cultural subjects, and to apply the vast grammar lessons to writing projects."

Two degrees of separation!

We extend our congratulations to Marlyn Rodriguez Fernandez, the newly appointed Assistant Secretary of Education for Puerto Rico. Marlyn received her Montessori training in San Juan through a program offered by The Center for Montessori Teacher Education (CMTE), the predecessor to METTC. Many of the current METTC faculty members conducted the program. Marlyn holds masters’ degrees in Library Administration and Educational Technology and received her Montessori certification in 2005. She has been affiliated with the Juan Ponce de Leon school collective under the direction of Ana Maria Garcia Blanco, the 2020 AMS Living Legacy.
