At METTC, we are committed to fostering a culture of kindness and belonging, and dedicate ourselves to just practices. We believe that accessibility, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (AJEDI) are inextricable components of our mission and values. We strive to create learning spaces that welcome and affirm each person, and honor the interdependence of our METTC community.
We are learning to identify, examine, and dismantle all forms of discrimination, including systemic racism, beginning with our Montessori teacher education program. We are evolving our program to ensure all voices are heard and valued. We seek to embrace the needs and perspectives of historically excluded and marginalized groups in our program and practices. The inclusion and celebration of each individual’s intersecting identities, experiences, and abilities enriches our organization and our work with communities, professionals, and adult learners.
We recognize that as teacher educators we are in a position of influence and power. We acknowledge that intention alone does not create change. We strive to center AJEDI in all aspects of our work: our policies and practices, professional development, program materials, and courses. It is our goal to empower and inspire our adult learners to advocate for all of their students and communities.
We welcome and embrace differences and believe that diversity makes us stronger and more resilient. We are committed to Dr. Montessori’s vision of education and peace.
“Adults must defend children. We adults must see the real humanity in children, the humanity which will take our place one day, if we are to have social progress. Social progress means that the next generation is better than the one before.”
M.M. from the 1946 London Lectures
