METTC Elementary Assistant Training: A Crash Course - NOW COMPLETED FOR FALL 2024! Check back next September!
This program is designed to support new to Montessori, or new to Elementary, staff members working with Elementary aged children (6-12 years old). This course is appropriate for classroom assistants, as well as specials teachers or before and aftercare staff.
In addition to building an understanding of Montessori pedagogy in the elementary environment, this 4-week course will help adults start their own toolbox of classroom management techniques and support healthy relationships in school through the lens of communication and professional excellence. Topics covered will include:
A brief overview of the history of the Montessori Movement.
A general introduction to Montessori pedagogy, including the essential components of a Montessori classroom: the child, the adult, and the environment.
An in-depth look at the valuable role support staff play in preparing and maintaining these key elements of Montessori programs.
Logistics: Thursdays, September 19 - October 17, 2024
This live, online course will be presented by METTC faculty member and lifelong Montessorian, Elizabeth Hoffman.
It will happen LIVE on Moodle over the course of four Thursday nights from 7:00-8:30pm EST on the following dates: 9/19, 9/26, 10/10 and 10/17 (Note: NO CLASS on 10/3)
Digital resources will be provided, along with a certificate of Continuing Professional Development from the American Montessori Society for 12 hours.
Cost is $250 for the full 4-week course (10% group discount for groups of 3 or more).
